The Legacy Key is a code that you give a Holder, that special someone who will see everything on your iPhone after you’re dead; allowing them to recover documents, pictures, emails, texts, anything on your cell phone, even information that comes onto your cell phone after you’re dead.
Below are the instructions to assign a Legacy Key Holder. DO IT NOW. And that way you won’t need to deal with it ever again; like when you’re old and have dementia form all the processed food we eat. And in case you’re young (or you think you are) and you suspect the Legacy Key Holder might change during your lifetime, put a calendar entry in your phone to re-confirm every couple of years. The last thing you want is your ex up in your cellphone when you’re dead, or maybe you do…sweet revenge photos. Who knows!!
Add a Legacy Contact for your Apple ID
You can add one or more Legacy Contacts in Apple ID settings on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac. You’ll receive an email confirmation when a Legacy Contact is added or removed for your account.
On your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch:
- Go to Settings, then tap your name.
- Tap Password & Security, then tap Legacy Contact.
- Tap Add Legacy Contact. You might be asked to authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.
On your Mac:
- Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Apple ID.
- Click Password & Security, then click Legacy Contact.
- Click Add Legacy Contact. You might be asked to authenticate with Touch ID or your Mac login password.
