Thoughts From Our San Francisco Systems Engineer On Azure RemoteApp and Citrix XenApp

Azure Remote Desktop Services (RDS) can host Windows desktops and applications, and depending on their needs then this may suffice but there are some limitations with this solution. However, RDS is not similar to Citrix in terms of its architecture and functionality as far as I understand. Previously Azure RemoteApp was available (and comparable to Citrix) to host non-persistent Terminal Server sessions in the cloud but it is now being deprecated as of 8/31/17 and it’s being replaced by Citrix XenApp in Azure,

Depending on their needs, Citrix XenApp in Azure offers multiple VDI deployment options for Citrix solutions—including virtual apps, desktops, data and networking. We would be able to provision and deliver workloads on Microsoft Azure cloud platform or choose to deploy VDI with Citrix Cloud services on Microsoft Azure.

Update Azure RemoteApp to Citrix XenApp In Azure

So for Accounting firm client, if they will be using RDS in Azure then this would be a project we would definitely love to tackle. However, if they need an entire Citrix in Azure, the process would be a bit more involved than RDS setup which also sounds like an awesome project (We’re  doing a Proof of Concept Environment with XenDesktop and XenApp Using Azure).
