To Connect, or NOT connect?

To Connect, or NOT connect?

That is the question, young padawan.

Here in Downtown San Francisco, literally MONTHS after Covid paranoia, our office buildings are still empty, our streets are still filled with drug addicts and car-jackers, and Fridays between 3pm and 7pm is a zombie shit show of welfare free-cash-handouts and drug-selling-frenzies, lunatics everywhere, and shit on all our sidewalks. ☹

So when the 25-year-olds say, “no way, I’m working from home”, there’s just no counter response to give other than, “ok, but you still need to work 40 hours per week. Ok?”

So how do we Connect, or not.

As an officially OLD tech behemoth (I just turned 50), I want ‘my ways’ to come back. I want to go to lunch and eat food with a person. I want to ask silly questions about our kids. I want to say, “that woman smells nice”. But the fact is, the world is now run by 30-year-olds, who have ‘their’ ways, and their ways are not my ways. And I have 20-year-old children, and their ways are even different from Millennial ways. So, Millennials, wait 20 years and my kids will start saying your ways to connect are NOT ‘straight fire’ either. But the fact is, my ways are out. Good bye to My Ways.

Until then, embrace the 2D, the Metaverse (to buy digital clothes for your puppy), Teams, Zoom, Facetime, WhatsApp and watch out for connecting with Humor on line. Laughter is a big FAIL in 2D and some people are very sensitive and will chop you to bits.

Connect how you want, but please, Connect. We’re human. Connection is how we survive.
