WiFi Security Tips

Wi-Fi vn networks are a sacred thing in the 21st century. So the security for your Wi-Fi should be just as sacred. Any entry-point hacker can use your Wi-Fi to gain access into your network without them ever setting a foot inside your building.  Wireless is like an open playground for these types of people. This is why security is key and takes a little more than setting up a well thought up password. When you take the time to learn more about enhanced security for your Wi-Fi network, it can go a long way towards making your networks impregnable. Though I encourage you do as much research on this topic as possible, here are just a few simple tips to make your wireless network safer.

Use an inconspicuous network name (SSID):

First off, a SSID stands for Service Set Identifier, just so you’re hip on the jargon. And having better security for your wireless network all starts in the name. Using a SSID that is too common is the first invite for hackers to crack your WPA or WPA2 security. That’s because the encryption algorithm incorporates your SSID, enabling a hacker to gain access in an easier manner than you might believe possible.

Stay up to date:

Whenever your laptop or mobile device alerts you to install another security patch, heed its alert. If you’re someone always working on the go, you want to install security patches as soon as they show up. Always avoid installing updates on a public network. Only installing updates on a secure network will keep your login information private from nefarious hackers.

Firewall! Firewall! Firewall!:

We’ve all seen these alerts on our computer, but if you’re anything like the rest of the population, you’ve probably just immediately clicked on that “remind me later” button. However, setting up your firewall is well worth the minuscule amount of time it’ll take to activate it. Every router has a firewall built into it that attempts to protect your internal network against outside attacks. Some are not activated automatically and may need to be turned on manually. This can be used as an extra layer of protection on top of a firewall software downloaded on your PC as well.
